John Mayfield, LMU Theological Studies major and ACTI Rains Research Assistant, was recently lauded with a number of awards honoring academic and scholarly excellence.
In addition to being inducted into Theta Alpha Kappa, the national honor society for scholars of Religious Studies and Theology, John received the award for achieving the highest GPA among graduating seniors in the Theological Studies Department. He also received the Marie Anne Mayeski Award, an honor which is given to “a graduating senior in Theological Studies who exemplifies the love of learning and the desire for God, and who has integrated theology into his or her life through research and writing, service, the promotion of justice, and leadership.”
Given these exceptional accomplishments, it is no surprise that John has been accepted into LMU’s Master’s program in Theology, where he will continue his scholarly pursuits as a graduate student. Prof. John Rothchild, former Chair of Theological Studies and new Associate Dean, writes:
“We are so delighted that John has excelled in his Theology courses. John brings intellectual curiosity, an indefatigable work ethic, thoughtful self-reflection, and deep convictions to all his academic pursuits. His love of music, experience as a pastor, and wonderful sense of humor create positive interactions with faculty and students. He truly embodies the mission through his love of learning and commitment to transforming the world. We look forward to John’s matriculating into the MA program next fall.”
John has been contributing to the ACTI community for the past two years, providing vital institutional knowledge as the ACTI staff has grown and changed, and his strong work ethic and scholarly passions have helped to ensure the success of many of our events. He even generously shares his musical gifts by performing live music at our annual Christmas parties! We are honored to have him as a member of the ACTI community. We congratulate him on his accomplishments and wish him the best as he pursues his Master’s Degree here at Loyola Marymount University.
